Drones descend on Montreal in first annual expo
More than 60 drone pilots raced for a chance to qualify for the North American Cup
Competitors from across North America descended on Molson Stadium to race their drones today.
More than 60 drone pilots took part in the first Montreal Drone Expo, which served as a qualifier for IDRA North American Cup.
Colombia-born Vancouverite Ronald Mesa said he likes drone racing because of how it merges technology and sports but also because it pushes him to be the best.
"When you can get better is when you compete with really good pilots. Real pilots are here," Mesa said.
The event features four races and almost 30 drone industry exhibitors.
Organizer Jason Mainella estimates the event cost around $30,000.
