A fire in Châteauguay forced around 200 people from their homes on Thursday night.
Firefighters had to rescue several people who had fallen unconscious by the time they arrived on the scene. They managed to clear the building in 30 minutes.
Two individuals were taken to hospital, but fire officials said their injuries are not considered serious.
The fire broke out in an apartment building on Maple Boulevard. The Red Cross provided temporary shelter to the evacuees in the gymnasium of a nearby school.
Police have opened a criminal investigation into what started the fire.
