The CBC Montreal Do Crew was born last June.

Since then we have teamed up with 13 different community groups from across the island — groups looking for a little bit of help cleaning up their community centre, lifting boxes, folding clothes and delivering meals to those in need.

Behind each of these events is a group of people who work tirelessly for causes they believe in. Luckily there are plenty of Montrealers willing to give a hand. In fact, the Do Crew has heard from more than 200 people looking to do a little volunteer work and that number grows by the day. If you haven't had a chance to join in the fun yet, our next event is just around the corner.

The Tyndale St Georges Community Centre is preparing for its' annual BBQ in Little Burgundy and this time the CBC Montreal Do Crew will be on-hand.

The community centre has been working with people in the neighbourhood for the last 87 years! Staff and volunteers at the centre offer services that range from early childhood education to after-school programs and training for adults in the community.

This is a neighbourhood that has a high percentage of single-parent families and struggles with high drop-out rates as well.  For many in the area this community centre is a second home.

The annual BBQ is a chance to start the summer months on a celebratory note with games and food for the whole family. Want to come along and volunteer? Here's what you need to know:

  • WHEN: Friday June 6, 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • WHERE: 870 Richmond Place, Little Burgundy
  • WHO: We need 12 volunteers
  • WHAT: We'll be helping out mainly with the games at the event but will also lend a hand with food preparation/service and anywhere else we're needed.

If you have any questions or you'd like to volunteer get in touch with Monique Lacombe by email: monique.lacombe@cbc.ca or call (514) 597-4479.
