Pre-crash mechanical defect has been ruled out as the cause of a bus crash last month that killed 14-year-old Chelssy Mercier.
On July 18, the bus travelling from Trois-Rivières, Que., to New York, N.Y., careened off the highway and rolled onto its side in North Hudson, N.Y.
The crash, on Interstate 87, killed Lévis, Que., teen Chelssy Mercier. The 14-year-old died after she was ejected from the bus and wound up pinned by the wreckage.
Following the completion of its inspection, New York State Police concluded that the charter coach — operated by the Autobus Fleur de Lys bus company — did not have any mechanical defects prior to the crash.
Autobus Fleur de Lys put out a statement following the crash saying the driver behind the wheel of the bus had nearly 30 years’ experience and an impeccable driving record.
New York State Police are continuing the investigation into the crash.
