Apparent explosives found in St-Jean-sur-Richelieu pizzeria
Pizzeria owner Ziad El-Khoury opened restaurant 7 weeks ago
A newspaper delivery man discovered the suspicious devices while doing his morning rounds in the city’s Iberville sector.
He noticed the pizzeria’s front window was broken and looked inside. When he spotted devices that looked like bombs, he called police.
Pizzeria owner Ziad El-Khoury has lived in St-Jean-sur-Richelieu for years and doesn’t know why his business, which has only been open for seven weeks, was targeted. He said he’s never been on the receiving end of threats or intimidation before.
"I don’t want to speculate. It was a stupid gesture and I’ll let the investigators do their work," he said.
He has already called the glass installer to replace his window and intends to reopen as quickly as possible.
“It’s not nice what happened but it doesn’t prevent me from continuing,” El-Khoury said.
Police have not yet confirmed whether the objects they found were actually explosive devices.
