A newborn was found safe after being abducted from a hospital in Trois-Rivières, between Montreal and Quebec City, late Monday, Quebec provincial police say.

Police arrested a suspect at her home.

Neighbours of the suspect recognized a photo of her and alerted the police, tweeted CBC's Mathieu Papillon.

The Sûreté du Québec said that just before 7 p.m., a woman dressed as a nurse showed up at the Sainte-Marie Hospital and went into the room of a new mother under “false pretense.”

Police said the woman left the room a few minutes later holding a baby wrapped in a blue blanket.

The baby is one day old.

Police issued an Amber Alert around 7 p.m. and were looking for a red Toyota Yaris hatchback with a "Bébé à bord" sticker.

The youth who identified the suspect went to visit the newborn's parents late Monday evening, Papillon tweeted.
