1 arrest made in Monday's student protest
One person was arrested by Montreal police Monday morning during a student protest to underline the forced return to class.
The sound of people banging on pots and pans made its return to the streets of Montreal on Monday night as hundreds of students mobilized to continue the student strike.
Montreal police deemed the rally illegal from the very beginning at Place Emilie Gamelin at 8:30 p.m.
Some people taking part in the protest broke windows along de Maisonneuve Boulevard while others lit-up firecrackers.
Police issued a tweet asking people for their cooperation since projectiles were thrown at establishments.
Three CEGEPs voted to resume classes.
Students from the protest made their way to the CEGEP du Vieux-Montréal where a general assembly to hold a student strike vote was being held.
The CEGEP compiled its ballots around 10 p.m. on Monday and students had voted to continue the strike.
Riot police began dispersing the crowd shortly before 11 p.m. since illegal acts were committed.
