Max Ward, a Canadian aviation legend, survived a plane crash Friday when his float plane hit the water too hard near Yellowknife.
Ward and his wife Marjorie escaped injury in the crash.
There were two other passengers aboard the Twin-Otter float plane. One was taken to hospital with injuries, then later released.
The floats broke off the plane when it slammed into the water. The plane was attempting a landing on a bay in the centre of Yellowknife. It is not known if Ward was at the controls.
Ward founded Wardair, which was sold to Canadian Airlines in the late 1980s.
