The walking undead took over the streets of downtown Winnipeg on Saturday night, as part of the annual Zombie Walk.

City police were on hand to escort thousands of people — many wearing oozing, bloody zombie makeup and making pronouncements about brains — as they made their way from The Forks to the Manitoba legislature.

While participants were supposed to stay on sidewalks, police ended up closing Broadway to traffic for part of the evening to accommodate all the zombies.

The event was organized in support of Winnipeg Harvest.
