Youth charged in beating death of 18-year-old man

A 17-year-old Winnipeg youth has been charged with manslaughter in the death of an 18-year-old man after a fight broke out at a party early Saturday morning.

A 17-year-old Winnipeg youth has been charged with manslaughter in the death of an 18-year-old man after a fight broke out at a party early Saturday morning.

The 18-year-old man was badly beaten at the gathering and sustained life-threatening injuries.

Police said the beating happened at a party in Transcona in the 100 block of Nevens Bay at about 1 a.m. when two party goers got into a verbal altercation that turned physical.

There was a large gathering of young people at the home when the fight broke out.

The man had injuries to his upper body and was rushed to hospital, where he later died.

His name has not been released.

The 17-year-old male has been detained at the Manitoba Youth Centre.

Investigators said prior to this incident, neither the victim nor the suspect were known to police.
