With the Winnipeg Jets and their fans gearing up for tonight's home opener, some nine-year-old hockey fans have words of advice for the team.

"Put the puck in the net" and "don't let those guys get past you on defence" were some of the recommendations from players with the Seals 9A1 minor atom hockey team.

The CBC's Margaux Watt spoke to the young players — most of whom are ardent Jets fans — as they practised at the Southdale Community Centre on Thursday.

Hopes are high as the Jets prepare for Friday's regular-season home opener, following a 5-4 road win against the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday.

The Jets will take on the Los Angeles Kings at the MTS Centre starting at 7 p.m.
