Would-be jewelry thief takes beating, held for police
A 20-year-old would-be robber was roughed up and held for police after trying to steal jewelry from a Winnipeg home.
It happened Feb. 11, just after 11:30 p.m. in the 100 block of Matheson Avenue of the city's Luxton neighbourhood.
One of the residents of the home had posted an advertisement on the internet for the sale of some jewelry, according to police, who said he, along with his brother and two cousins, were home when the suspect came to view the items.
After seeing the jewelry, the suspect alerted three friends, who stormed in with weapons, police said.
A fight broke out, leaving two of residents and the suspect hurt. The three armed men ran from the scene when police were called.
Officers arrived to find the residents holding the suspect, who was then transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
A 24 year old resident sustained serious injuries and required medical treatment, while his 22-year-old brother had minor injuries.
Following an investigation, police charged the suspect, a 20-year-old man, with numerous offences on Tuesday.
The investigation is still going and anyone with information on the identity of the three suspects who fled the scene are asked to contact police at 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
