A woman is lucky to be alive after being rescued from the Assiniboine River near Polo Park in the early hours of Friday morning.

Emergency crews responded to the area at about 3:30 a.m. where they found the woman in the middle of the river being pulled by a fast moving current.

Due to the cold water, poor visibility and the flood river conditions rescuers had a hard time getting the woman out of the water.

A rescue helicopter was sent to assist at the scene. An infrared camera and a helicopter's spotlight was used to find the woman so water rescue crews could pull her to safety.

There is no word on how the woman got into the water or her current condition.
