A 35-year-old woman has died after she was struck by a vehicle at a Winnipeg intersection early Wednesday morning.

The collision happened at the intersection of St. Anne's Road and St. Mary's Road at around 2:40 a.m.

The female pedestrian was taken to hospital in critical condition. She later died of her injuries, according to police.

The intersection was closed throughout the morning rush hour but reopened just before 9 a.m.

Charges are expected to be laid against the 35-year-old male driver of the vehicle, who is in custody.

Police say the man and woman knew each other.
