A 32-year-old woman has been charged with murder in the stabbing death of a man in Winnipeg.

Dawn Marie McFadyen remains in custody at the Provincial Remand Centre, charged with second-degree murder in connection with the city's 23rd homicide of the year.

Brandon Lee How, 39, died on Friday night after being rushed to hospital. He was stabbed at the Capri Apartments in the 2100 block of Portage Avenue, in the city's St. James area, at about 9 p.m.

Two other people, a 32-year-old woman and 42-year-old man, were sent to hospital in stable condition.

Const. Rob Carver says the three people were "socializing" in the apartment when the victim got into a fight with another man, resulting in the 42-year-old man being injured.

Police were called after the woman stepped into the fight and stabbed How in the upper body.

"I guess the altercation had moved out into the outside of the apartment block, so we did have witnesses in the area, people driving by, as well as people who were part of the apartment who had seen it," he said.
