Woman assaulted in Winnipeg home invasion
A 22-year-old man has been charged in connection with a home invasion in Winnipeg's Tyndall Park neighbourhood.
Police say he went into an unlocked home on Taraska Bay at about 2 a.m. on Sunday and began taking out electronic items and putting them outside the rear of the house.
The suspect then re-entered the house and went into a room where a woman was asleep. When the woman woke up, the intruder assaulted her in an attempt to keep her from calling out for help, police said.
However, the woman was able to break free and alert two other people in the house. The intruder ran but was chased by other people from the house.
Police were also called and with the help of a canine unit, were able to track the suspect to the area of Inkster Boulevard and Keewatin Street.
The 22-year-old man is charged with break and enter, assault, and failure to comply with a probation order.
