A number of Winnipeggers are set to gather at The Forks Tuesday night armed with coloured lanterns to recognize World Cancer Day.
The second Annual Light the Night event has participants raise money for cancer research, complete a five-kilometre walk and light coloured lanterns to honour survivors and victims.
Gold lanterns are held in memory of loved ones, red lanterns are held by those supporting the cause and a white lantern is held by survivors.
Last year, the national event raised $4.6 million, with $163,000 of that being raised in Winnipeg.
The charity event is run by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada.
This year, Winnipeg’s event began at 6 p.m.
