Winnipeg women to compete in 2014 Miss Indian World Pageant
Tasha Spillett and Shawna Olson are going to New Mexico for annual celebration of Indigenous culture
Two young women from Winnipeg are headed to New Mexico this weekend for the 2014 Miss Indian World Pageant.
Tasha Spillett and Shawna Olson are competing in the pageant, which is part of North America’s largest powwow.
Contestants are evaluated on their mastery of traditional talents such as dancing and singing.
The event isn’t a conventional beauty pageant — it's about sharing Indigenous culture from all over North America.
