A 29-year-old woman was seriously sexually assaulted in broad daylight Monday in Winnipeg’s Point Douglas neighbourhood.

Police said the woman was walking near Main Street and Sutherland Avenue when a man approached her and asked for change. When she stopped to get some from her purse, the man produced a weapon and forced her toward a nearby building.

She was seriously sexually assaulted, police said.

Police are now looking for a man who looks to be about 40 years old with a heavy build and a shaved bald head. The man looked to be about five-foot-nine and 200 pounds (90 kilograms). Police said he also had a pointed nose and a burn mark or circular scar on the right side of his chest.

At the time of the attack, the man was wearing prescription sunglasses.

The sex crimes unit is now investigating the attack. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 204-986-6245 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477.
