Winnipeg’s mosquito population spikes in 24 hours
Mosquito trap counts up significantly in last 24 hours, nearing threshold for third fogging round
The City of Winnipeg may soon be starting a third round of mosquito fogging, after trap counts shot up in the past 24 hours.
On Wednesday, the city-wide average for mosquito traps was 15. But by Thursday, that number had jumped to 96.
A trap near the Assiniboine Forest trapped a whopping 728 mosquitoes.
So far this year, the city has done two rounds of fogging, cutting the second round short last weekend after weather prevented trucks from completing their work and trap counts dropped sharply.
