Winnipeg residential parking ban goes into effect
The City of Winnipeg is putting its residential parking ban into effect so it can plow away all that new snow.
The ban kicks in at 7 a.m. Saturday, which means any vehicles left on roads scheduled for clearing will get a $150 ticket ($75 if paid early) and could be towed to a nearby street that is not scheduled to be cleared, or that has already been cleared.
Plowing operations on primary streets and bus routes has already begun.
For residential streets, people are urged to find an alternative place to park. No warning notifications will be issued before a street is cleared, so people are advised to know their zone and when it is scheduled for crews.
The schedule will be on the city’s Know Your Zone website and Twitter messages and emails to subscribers will also be sent out.
The city’s website will also have a map updated daily while snow clearing is underway. The map will highlight those residential streets where the ban applies for the current and next shift.
