Despite bone-chilling temperatures and towering snow, Winnipeggers can take pride in the fact that they live in one of the best large cities in Canada — at least according to one magazine.

Winnipeg is ranked one of the best cities to live in, according to an annual report by Money Sense magazine.

The magazine ranked Winnipeg the 5th most desirable place to live among large Canadian cities, edging out Halifax and Toronto, which took 7th place.

Just a year ago the city captured an award for having Canada's greatest neighbourhood in Osborne Village. That designation came from the Canadian Institute of Planners.

Money Sense's report looked at quality of life factors, such as affordable housing, weather, income, population growth and crime rates.

Out of all Canadian cities, Winnipeg ranked 16th.

Calgary was ranked the top city to live in Canada based on its growing economy and high number of jobs.

Money Sense publishes its city rankings annually.
