Winnipeg police have identified the city's first homicide victim of 2013 and charged a 28-year-old man with second degree murder in the death.  

Jenilee Rose Ballantyne, 22, was found dead in an abandoned vehicle early Thursday morning.

A 28-year-old man has turned himself into police and now faces a second degree murder charge.

Officers were first called at about 4:25 a.m. CST to at home in the 500 block of Kylemore Avenue about a stabbing.  

Police said they believe Ballantyne was with the man early Thursday morning. While together they were involved in a dispute where Ballantyne sustained serious injuries.

Then at about 1:30 p.m. CST that day police responded to Pear Tree Bay in south St. Vital.

Police said the man placed Ballantyne in vehicle and drove to that location, left the vehicle and took off.  

There is no word yet on what the relationship between the victim and accused was.  

Officers are waiting for autopsy results to confirm the cause of death.
