A 66-year-old man has died in a head-on crash between a minivan and a pickup truck on the Trans-Canada Highway near Portage la Prairie, Man., while a couple inside the truck was injured.
The collision happened around noon Tuesday on the highway, about one kilometre west of the Shell gas station.
RCMP said the truck, which was pulling a camper trailer, was travelling east when the westbound minivan crossed the ditch between the east and westbound lanes and collided head-on with the truck.
The minivan driver, a 66-year-old man from Winnipeg, was pronounced dead at the scene, police confirmed Tuesday evening. His name was not released.
A couple from Ste. Anne, Man., was inside the truck. Police said the driver, a 61-year-old man, was transported to hospital in Portage with non-life-threatening injuries.
The man's spouse, a 57-year-old woman, was airlifted to Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg with "multiple trauma, including serious lower-body injuries," according to the STARS air ambulance service.
The woman was listed in stable condition as of Tuesday evening, said police.
