The City of Winnipeg is looking to fine landlords who fail to keep their tenants' homes warm.
A recommendation going to the Protection and Community Services committee next week calls for fines to be imposed if a room's temperature is less than 21 degrees between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m.
The landlord could also be fined if a room temperature is less than 18 degrees between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m.
The recommendation from city administration comes from a motion put forward earlier this year by Coun. Harvey Smith, who said the motion was prompted stories by CBC News.
