Among the throngs of family, friends and just-plain old fans cheering after Jennifer Jones led her team to an Olympic gold medal in curling were some Winnipeg Jets.

Jones, who curls out of the St. Vital Curling Club, defeated Team Sweden 6-3 Thursday morning.

And Jets Andrew Ladd and Mark Stuart were among those thrilled to watch.

Stuart, a defenseman for the NHL team, said he had nothing but pride in the local talent.

“It’s really cool to see locals do that well especially [because] a few of the women work out up there at Focus (a Winnipeg gym),” said Stuart. “During the lockout, I was there for most of the time so they were up there quite a bit, and I got to know the trainers really well.”

Team captain Ladd echoed those sentiments.

“It’s fun to watch them be successful and bring home a medal,” he said Thursday.

The Winnipeg Jets have just returned to the ice after their Olympic break, less four players who are in Sochi competing.

The whole team will face off against the Phoenix Coyotes on Thursday, Feb. 27.
