Jets coach Paul Maurice has been signed to a four year contract extension.

General Manager Kevin Cheveldayoff made the announcement Wednesday morning.

Maurice joined the team in January as a temp after former Jets coach Claude Noel was fired following a five-game losing streak.

Cheveldayoff also said Jets goalie Ondrej Pavelec will keep his place as a starter between the pipes.

Pavelec ended the 2013-2014 season with a 3.01 goals-against average and 0.901 save percentage.

The Jets finished shy of the playoffs for the third-straight year with 84 points and a record of 37-35-10.

Winnipeg was 18-12-5 overall under Maurice.
