Two Winnipeg hikers were rescued by RCMP on the Mantario Trail on Sunday afternoon.

Police say the two men were hiking on the trail, located in Manitoba's Whiteshell region, when one of them became injured.

As night set and the weather worsened, they decided to call for help.

RCMP in Lac du Bonnet, Man. say they received a call around 3 a.m. Sunday.

With the help of staff from Manitoba Conservation and Water Stewardship, as well as a float plane from Adventure Air in Lac du Bonnet, RCMP rescued their pair in the Ritchie Lake area around 4 p.m.

Police are urging everyone who on a hiking trips to let people know where they are going and when they are expected to arrive at their destination.

Hikers should also check local weather conditions and bring food, water and provisions to build a fire, police say.
