Let the music begin.

Thousands of people poured into Birds Hill Provincial park Wednesday morning as the gates for the 41st annual Winnipeg Folk Festival opened at 7 a.m.

A total of 80,000 people are expected to attend during the five-day festival, which runs July 9 to July 13.

There are 10 stages of music spread across the festival site, including the Chickadee Big Top stage for little folksters to listen to children’s music and take part in crafts and other activities.

As a bonus, this year for the first time ever, kids under 12 get into the Folk Festival free.

Also on the festival site is a music store tent where people can meet performers and get autographs, food vendors, a handmade village to shop in, and a couple place to grab a pint — the Big Rock Tavern and Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries Patio.
