Winnipeg firefighters battle a string of garage fires
Firefighters in Winnipeg have been battling a string of garage fires in the city Friday night and into Saturday morning.
The arson squad is investigating the latest, which broke out Saturday just before 1 p.m. in the 700 block of Pritchard Avenue.
Crews were able to put out the blaze, but say the garage was has been badly damaged.
Traffic was blocked in the area of Pritchard Avenue, Arlington Street and Selkirk Avenue.
Fire crews were at another home on the 300 block of Aberdeen Avenue, just before 6:00 a.m.
There is no word yet on what the cause, but damage is estimated at about $15,000.
Before that, firefighters were called to 1079 Alfred Avenue at about 10:50 p.m. Friday, where another garage was reported to be on fire.
That call came just minutes after the fire department had dispatched crews to Dominion Street at about 10:30 p.m. where two garages were up in flames.
Damage there is estimated to be about $60,000. No word yet on the cause.
No one was hurt in any of the fires.
