Winnipeg boys face charges in West End car theft
Three boys, between the ages of 12 and 14, face several charges in a vehicle theft yesterday morning in Winnipeg's West End.
Police say officers were patrolling around Simcoe Street and St. Matthews Avenue on Sunday at around 4 a.m. when they spotted a vehicle that had been reported stolen a short time earlier.
The officers stopped the vehicle near Elgin Avenue and Sherbrook Street and arrested two of the boys there.
The driver ran away from the scene, but the Winnipeg Police Service's Air-1 helicopter located him in the 200 block of Lulu Street.
Officers on the ground found the driver and arrested him without incident, police said in a release Monday.
The 12- and 14-year-old boys remain in custody at the Manitoba Youth Centre, while the 13-year-old was released on a promise to appear in court.
