The Winnipeg Blue Bombers released two major players on Monday, including quarterback Joey Elliot.

Safety Ian Logan was also released.

Elliot spent part of the 2012 season starting for the team and even picked up CFL award early in the season, so his release came as a surprise to a number of fans.

Elliot tweeted he wanted to thank the city of Winnipeg and the fans that supported him. He said the city would always have a place in his heart.

The Bombers will start their season on June 27 against the Montreal Alouettes in the new Investors Group Field in Winnipeg.
