Hungry travellers at Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport have some new choices to choose from, including Freshii, the healthy eating chain founded by a former Winnipegger.

The Winnipeg Airports Authority unveiled its latest restaurant additions on Wednesday.

Freshii, a worldwide health food franchise started by Winnipeg-born Matthew Corrin over a decade ago, opened its first locations in the city last year.

In addition to Freshii, True Burger, Prairie Bistro and Skylights Lounge have opened in the airport's domestic and international post-security area.

Passengers heading to the United States can dine at UrbanCrave, a restaurant with a "newly extended bar area with additional seating," the airport authority said in a news release.

In December, Winnipeg-based restaurant chains Salisbury House and Gondola Pizza were given the boot from the airport.

At the time, an airport authority spokesperson said the decision was in response to passengers seeking, among other things, healthier eating options.
