What will Winnipeg do with the old Public Safety Building?
Anywhere from $3M to $40M could be spent transforming Princess Street building
The City of Winnipeg is set to spend anywhere from $3 million to $40 million on the Public Safety Building, which is soon to be vacated by the Winnipeg Police Service.
A report published Thursday identified several options for the building located at 151 Princess St. and the adjoining civic parkade.
One option tabled proposed that the crumbling building be fixed to house a variety of relocated city services. That would cost $40 million.
Another alternative would have the parkade torn down and replaced it with greenspace for around $3 million.
City officials have asked for $275,000 to study all the options.
