A slick new website is encouraging people to move into downtown Winnipeg.

CentreVenture Development Corporation, Downtown BIZ and the Exchange BIZ launched the website Tuesday morning.

My Place Is Downtown is designed to encourage and educate people about living in the city centre, featuring listings on rentals and condos for sale, as well as details about where to park, the locations of grocery stores, gyms, and greenspaces, and what the community will look like in the coming years.

The Downtown BIZ says over the last five years the number of people living downtown has jumped by about 4,000 and the group hopes the website will help continue that growth.

At the moment, more than 13,000 people call downtown Winnipeg home.

"Winnipeg is seeing a rapid and positive urban renaissance with more and more housing options emerging, helping change the face of our downtown for the better," said Stefano Grande, executive director of the Downtown BIZ, in a news release.

"There was a time, not all that long ago, when downtown Winnipeg wasn’t a consideration when looking to purchase a condominium," added Ross McGowan, president and CEO of CentreVenture.

"Now, downtown is emerging as a prime upscale location with gorgeous condo buildings along Waterfront and residential conversions in the Exchange District."
