A man is in stable condition in hospital after water rescue personnel pulled him out of the Assiniboine River on Monday evening.

Police confirmed that the man was rescued from the river near Wellington Crescent just before 6 p.m.

The man was taken to hospital to be treated for hypothermia, according to police.

There is no word on how he ended up in the river.

Fire officials at the scene said they used a boat to pull the man out of the water.

  • A previous version of this story incorrectly stated that a man was rescued from the Red River in Winnipeg, when it was actually the Assiniboine River.
