Canada's chief electoral officer says there will be a judicial recount in a Winnipeg riding the Liberals won in last week's federal election.

Incumbent Kevin Lamoureux edged out New Democrat Rebecca Blaikie by just 45 votes in Winnipeg North.

It is the only riding held by the Liberals in Manitoba.

Elections Canada says the recount will start Monday under the direction of a judge from Manitoba Court of Queen's Bench.

The election saw the Liberals reduced to a rump with just 34 seats compared to the surging NDP's 103.

The New Democrats will form the Official Opposition.

The Tories return to Parliament with 166 seats, the Bloc Quebecois with four and the Greens with one.
