About two dozen vehicles that had been locked in thick ice at a Winnipeg parking lot since New Year's Eve have finally been freed.

The vehicles had been frozen in the parking lot since a water main break flooded a townhouse complex on Morello Bay at Jefferson Avenue, in the Maples neighbourhood, on Dec. 31.

On Monday, crews used high-pressure steam to loosen the ice, then tow trucks pulled the vehicles out.
