Vehicle catches fire after hitting ditch along Manitoba highway
RCMP investigating after RM of Glenboro-South Cypress incident
RCMP plan to charge a man with impaired driving after his vehicle went into the ditch and went up in flames in the RM of Glenboro-South Cypress.
Blue Hills RCMP were called to the scene — in the ditch next to Hwy. 18 south of Hwy. 2 — shortly after 8 p.m. on Friday.
A witness helped the driver out of the vehicle, but the driver then took off on foot before emergency crews arrived, RCMP said. Mounties found the 65-year-old man from Norfolk-Treherne lying in a ditch nearby, uninjured.
The man was prohibited from driving and refused a roadside alcohol screening device, RCMP said.
He is being held at the Brandon Correctional Centre.
The fire destroyed the vehicle. Police are still trying to identify it.
The man could face multiple charges including impaired driving, refusing an alcohol test and driving while prohibited.
