The University of Winnipeg is lauding the progress made in the downtown area over the last eight years.
The school’s urban studies program released a map of new developments in Winnipeg’s downtown on Monday.
Officials said the city’s core has seen a period of rapid development from 2005 to 2008, with $2 billion being spent on 106 projects in the area during that time.
"We have to go back to the the 1910's the 1900's when we saw this type of development in the downtown, and I think that's the different story today — that we have not seen this type of activity in a very long time," said Jino Distasio, the director of the university's urban studies program.
University officials said comparable development in the downtown area hasn’t occurred since the 1920s.
