Winnipeg police are investigating after two cab drivers were robbed at knifepoint within hours of each other, but officers won’t say if the incidents are related.

Around 11 p.m. Wednesday, a 51-year-old Duffy’s Taxi driver picked up two men in the 200 block of Maryland Street, according to police.

Shortly after, one of the men threatened the driver with a knife and robbed him of cash.

About an hour and a half later, a 39-year-old Unicity Taxi driver picked up a man in the 600 block of Furby Street.

The man then threatened the driver with a knife and robbed him of cash. Police said the driver tried to protect himself and was injured in the process.

The man fled the area with cash and some of the driver’s belongings.

Police said the cab driver’s injuries were non-life-threatening.

The major crimes unit is now investigating both robberies.
