'Two Jacks Press Box' named after sports journalists, Bombers say
Club honours journalists Jack 'Cactus' Wells and Jack Matheson for Bombers coverage
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have named the Investors Group Field (IGF) stadium press box after late sports journalists Jack Matheson and Jack Wells.
The Bombers organization announced Tuesday they were dedicating the press box in the IGF Bob Irving Media Centre to the two men.
"The two Jacks were both esteemed journalists, each a master at his craft, but more than that, they were good men who were admired and respected by everyone who knew them," said Bombers President and CEO Wade Miller in a press release. "Many of the journalists covering the Bombers today credit the two Jacks as being the inspiration for their own careers."
"Cactus Jack" Wells was a Winnipeg sports broadcaster and announcer who covered the Bombers throughout his career and was inducted into the Canadian Association of Broadcasters. Wells died in 1999.
Matheson, too, covered the Bombers and Winnipeg sports. He was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1986. Matheson died in 2011.
The Bombers held a dedication ceremony on Thursday morning .
