Truck hits Empress overpass, snags Portage traffic

Winnipeg police have re-opened eastbound Portage Avenue near Empress Street after a truck collided with the underpass and dropped a container on the roadway, Friday afternoon.

The crash happened around 3:30 p.m. and crews worked to clear the area during rush hour.

The flatbed truck's cargo container could be seen across the roadway, with the actual truck parked several feet away.

For a time, traffic was completely blocked off in the eastbound lanes of Portage Avenue and vehicles diverted to onto Empress Street.

Around 4:30 p.m., all lanes of Portage Avenue eastbound were re-opened.
