Winnipeg police have arrested three people in connection with an early-morning attack outside a downtown hotel and restaurant that sent a man to hospital.

Police were called at around 8 a.m. CT Thursday to the Paragon Restaurant and Bar, which is part of the Carlton Inn on Carlton Street and St. Mary Avenue.

A man who was found on the ground with "unknown injuries" was taken to hospital in critical condition, but he has since been upgraded to stable, police said in a release.

Blood was visible on the sidewalk, and a black coat and some change were found nearby.

Witnesses told police they saw three suspects fleeing the scene in a vehicle just before the officers arrived.

The vehicle in question was found and stopped a short time later, and officers arrested one man and two women. The trio is currently in custody.

Police did not release any other details about the incident.
