Winnipeg police Monday described a chaotic rampage by teenagers in a stolen car in the city's North End on Saturday.

They were using the car as a weapon, police said.

Police said an 18-year-old was in his car on the 400 block of Maryland Street when a group of teenagers smashed the car window, sprayed him with beer, hauled him out and then beat him up.

They then took his car and went on a rampage through the city's North End, hitting a taxi and a police cruiser, and actually aiming at pedestrians and cyclists, hitting one man on a bike, police said.

"They were driving the vehicle in a dangerous manner, at high rates of speed, and with no regard for public safety — in fact well beyond that," said Const. Jason Michalyshen.

In a tragic coincidence, Ronnie Kakegamic, 21, was among a group of cyclists they tried to crash into with the car.

Not long after that, he was stabbed to death in what appears to be an unrelated incident.

Meanwhile, two boys aged 15 and 16 face a long list of charges in connection with the stolen vehicle.
