Two teenage boys face arson charges in connection with a fire that destroyed a house under construction and damaged three neighbouring homes in Winnipeg last month.

The boys, aged 15 and 16, have been arrested and face charges of arson causing damage to property and arson with disregard for human life, city police announced on Wednesday.

They also face charges of breaking and entering and possession of incendiary material.

The blaze happened after 8 a.m. on May 19 in the 100 block of Jefferson Avenue.

Two of the homes were engulfed in flames by the time firefighters arrived, while the blaze was spreading to homes on either side.

Everyone in the homes got out safely and no one was hurt, according to police.

The fire started in one of the houses, which was under construction at the time, according to police.

Total damage is estimated at $500,000.
