Teen's brutal beating an 'initiation gone bad' for gang member: police
A badly beaten teen, who was found in an inner city dumpster early Thursday morning, belonged to the same gang as the three people charged with his assault, Winnipeg police say.
"For whatever reason, it was somewhat of an initiation gone bad," said Const. Blair Good on Friday.
The 14-year-old boy, who is from the remote community of Garden Hill in the Island Lake area , was beaten up inside a house on the 600 block of Furby Street and then taken out to the garbage bin in the back alley, where police found him, Good said.
The teen was rushed to hospital to receive emergency surgery for extensive upper body injuries and remains in critical condition, he said.
The beating victim had been kicked, punched and repeatedly beaten with a piece of wood, police said.
Two men, aged 23 and 18, along with a 15-year-old boy, have been charged with aggravated assault.
