Team Jones honoured with Winnipeg street name, Juno invite
Jennifer Jones's curling team returns home after winning gold at Sochi Olympics
Just hours after returning to Winnipeg from the Sochi Olympics, Jennifer Jones and her champion curling team have already been honoured with a street name and an opportunity to present an award at the Junos next month.
Juno Awards organizers announced on Tuesday that Jones and her rink — Kaitlyn Lawes (third), Jill Officer (second), and lead Dawn McEwen — will be presenters at the award show at the end of March.
"When we got the invitation to come and present at the Junos, I got goosebumps even talking about it," Jones told reporters after the announcement.
"We're in Winnipeg, we're in our city, and the Junos is so huge and we're huge music fans and we're going to be presenting on stage. It's an incredible honour for us and we can't wait."
Earlier in the day, Mayor Sam Katz announced that Regal Avenue, which crosses in front of the St. Vital Curling Club — the home rink for the Jones team — will also have an honorary name: Team Jones Way.

Jones and her team went undefeated during the Olympics, ultimately winning the gold medal on Feb. 20 and becoming the first women’s curling team in Olympic history to achieve a perfect record.
“Winnipeggers have always been extremely supportive of Team Jones and are very proud of the team’s record-breaking Olympic achievement,” said Katz.
A ceremony to unveil Honorary Team Jones Way will take place at a later date. The city was quick to note that it is an honorary designation, which means formal addresses for residents on Regal Avenue will not change.
Members of the team will also be presented with City of Winnipeg outstanding achievement award medallions — an honour bestowed to gold medal Olympic champions based or residing in Winnipeg.
Jones said it means a lot to the team to receive an honorary street name, as they love Winnipeg.
