U.S. retailer Target confirms it will open its next Winnipeg store at the former Blue Bombers stadium site near Polo Park Shopping Centre.
Target announced on Wednesday that the new Winnipeg store will open sometime this fall.
The company is opening a total of nine locations across Canada this year, with almost half of them in Ontario.
There are currently three Target stores in Winnipeg and one in Brandon.
A proposal to build a Target store at the site of the former Canad Inns Stadium, in the city's St. James area, has been discussed in recent years.
Target says the store will have just under 150,000 square feet. By comparison, the Ikea store near Sterling Lyon Parkway and Kenaston Boulevard has 390,000 square feet.
Some St. James residents and shoppers have raised concerns in the past about a Target store bringing even more traffic to an area that is already very congested.
