Target announces first Manitoba stores
U.S. retailer Target has announced the locations of the first Canadian stores it plans to open in March and April 2013, including three in Manitoba.
The company on Friday released a list of 59 locations in B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario.
The Manitoba locations include:
- Brandon – Shoppers Mall
- Winnipeg – Kildonan Place Shopping Centre
- Winnipeg – Southdale Centre
In May 2011, the Financial Post reported most of those locations, including two additional Winnipeg locations in Grant Park Shopping Centre and Polo Park Shopping Centre.
The news release from Target does not mention those locations. However, it does say Target intends to announce additional stores over the next several months.
Target said in January 2011 that it was buying the leasehold interests of 220 Zellers locations in Canada for $1.8 billion from the U.S. investor who owns the Hudson's Bay Co. assets.
At that time, Target said it would convert 100 to 150 of those Zellers to Target stores in 2013 and 2014 and possibly sell the rest to other retailers.
